This lot features a pair of fallow deer (Dama dama) antlers, characterised by their distinctive broad, palmated tops and natural aged patina. The antlers are mounted onto a shield-shaped plaque made from dark-stained wood. The centre of the plaque is inset with a black leather panel decorated with a gilded heraldic crest. This crest depicts a shield divided into four quarters by a central cross, with each quarter containing a lion. The shield is flanked by a mace or scepter and a sword, and it is surmounted by a crown. The antlers are secured to the mount via visible surface-mounted screws. The heraldry displayed is suggestive of symbols associated with the City of Durham.
