A vintage promotional wall clock for John Player Special (JPS), a tobacco brand by John Player & Sons. The clock is housed in a rectangular landscape-orientated frame made of moulded black plastic with a gold-tone metallic trim. The front is divided into two sections, each protected by a clear acrylic or glass cover. The left-hand section features a square clock face with a black ground and gold-tone Roman numerals from I to XII. It includes three hands: gold-tone hour and minute hands and a central red second hand. The right-hand section contains a large branding panel with the interlocking stylized JPS monogram and the text John Player Special in gold-tone serif lettering. This design is characteristic of the brand’s high-profile sponsorship of Team Lotus in Formula 1 during the 1970s and 1980s. The reverse reveals a recessed area for a battery-operated quartz movement and a small circular yellow sticker with the word TESTED.
