A Carlton Ware earthenware dish of lobed, quatrefoil-inspired form with stepped ends and a scalloped rim. The interior is finished in a vibrant orange-red glaze, accented centrally with a black transfer-printed arabesque decoration featuring symmetrical scrollwork, fleur-de-lis motifs, and interlocking geometric lines. The reverse of the dish is glazed in white and features a gold-coloured printed backstamp identifying the maker as Carlton Ware, made in England. This style of bold graphic decoration on a solid ground was characteristic of the factory output during the mid-20th century.
