A circular glazed earthenware display charger produced by Poole Pottery, designed by artist Tony Morris. This piece is part of the Cathedral series and features a stylized depiction of The Passion, inspired by the medieval stained-glass windows of Chartres Cathedral. The decoration is executed in a cloisonné style with heavy black outlines filled with vibrant jewel-toned glazes in shades of red, purple, orange, yellow, and blue. The central composition depicts the Crucifixion flanked by figures, set within a circular border of geometric and foliate motifs.
The reverse of the charger bears a central black printed mark reading: CATHEDRAL PLATE, 202 / 1000, Inspired by the Passion window, Chartres, Designed by Tony Morris. To the right of the central mark is a hand-painted artist monogram in black.
The lot is accompanied by the original paper Certificate of Authenticity from Poole Pottery Limited. The certificate confirms the plate is numbered 202 from a guaranteed limited edition of 1000 issued in 1973 and features the signature of Managing Director Roy Y. Holland.
