A small bench or jewellery anvil manufactured by John Mountford and Co. of Birmingham. The anvil features a single-bick design with a flat rectangular striking face, a small step, and a conical tapering horn. The central body is supported by a flared base with arched cutouts to the sides. One side of the waist is embossed with the maker name J MOUNTFORD above the production year 1979. The opposing side features a raised stylized maker’s mark consisting of a monogrammed letter M with a central vertical projection. The piece is constructed from cast ferrous metal.
