Lot 4 Six Hand-Carved Ethnographic Hairpins

A set of six hand-carved ethnographic hairpins or decorative ornaments, likely originating from East Africa. Each item is crafted from a single piece of dark, dense hardwood, possibly ebony or a similar local species. The finials are hand-carved into various stylised human forms and heads, each exhibiting unique facial features and headdresses. Tightly coiled silver-toned metal wire is applied to the upper section of each shaft below the figurative carving. The wooden shafts are hand-tapered to a pointed tip. The dark wood possesses a smooth, naturally polished finish. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on any of the pieces.
